It is quite handy to have cell phones on you all the time. Mobile devices have turned into vital equipment for day to day living to enable you to communicate with family or business colleagues. Because using cellular phones are so common, it also calls for proper manners while using the device to talk to people or send SMS messages via text.

Sending SMS messages through mobile devices has gained more steam than calling people on the phone. Since it had become quite popular in recent years, it becomes more important to practice protocol when texting in the office or in public venues. It is also not uncommon to receive text while driving which is also a dangerous risk to motorists.

If you receive an SMS message while you are behind the wheel, you should ask your passenger to check your message for you and reply to it if you have to. If you are in a car and not driving, you should inform other commuters and the driver that you are replying to an important message. Do it quickly though.

If you are chatting to someone, avoid reading incoming SMS messages or replying to them. If you are expecting an important text, you should excuse yourself, reply to the text and quickly bring your attention back to the person you were talking to. Wait for an appropriate time to read your text and reply to it.

You should consider setting your SMS tones to silent or to a low sounding single beep. Sometimes vibrating mobile cellular phones can be just as irritating as a ringing phone. Set your mobile devices to silent before entering a restaurant or meeting so as not to disturb or distract other people.

If you are inside the cinema, turn off your cellular phone or at least put it on silent mode. Reading text or replying to one while inside a cinema, theatre or in a show is disconcerting especially when your cellular phone lights up when you receive a text. The light can be irritating for people beside you in a dark cinema house.

It is helpful to have cell phones to communicate with friends and other people. Texting is the latest craze to hit teens and even adults. Even if you do not speak to send an SMS message, typing endlessly on the phone can irritate people around you. Just like calling, it would be best to excuse yourself to send a text message.
