Get an iPhone 4s now or wait for an iPhone 5?

In only 3 days, the iPhone 4s set sales records with over 4 million units sold, and those who were in that group fall into two major categories. The first category of people includes those who enjoy their current mobile device such as Androids and Blackberrys while the second category includes Apple fans who are itching to get their paws on the latest iPhone release.

Some may argue that there is a third category--those who don't own any mobile device--but we have seen 1st graders with their own cell phones so we highly doubt this is true. What is true is that the iPhone 4s, and the new iOS 5.0 that was released with it, has done well to quell the initial disappointment that the iPhone 4s release wasn't a completely revamped iPhone 5.

Unfortunately the reduced disappointment and increasing intrigue has left those who have yet to upgrade to start itching more and more. So, now, "Should I get the iPhone 4s now or wait for the iPhone 5?" is the only question you are left asking yourself. And that's why we've broken down that question into 3 more specific questions to help give you some insight and help you make a more informed decision:

"Does it matter which iPhone I have in deciding whether to upgrade?" Now is probably a good time to upgrade your iPhone if you have a 3G or 3Gs handset. While you probably will miss out on the the next big release, you'll be ready to buy the refined version of the iPhone 5 when it comes out. But, the best reason for not waiting any longer to upgrade is that the 3G and 3Gs don't support many of Apple's apps and software updates that are now being built for much faster processors and functions. Although that's the case for the 3G and 3Gs, unless you can't live without the new Siri voice recognition feature, your iPhone 4 should be able to handle most new features and upgrading isn't needed as much.

"When will the iPhone 5 be released?" The word is that the iPhone 5 is on pace to arrive mid to late summer in 2012 with Apple's notoriously slow release schedule. And though an early spring release probably would cause many cash-strapped fanboys to cry if they upgraded now, if the iPhone 5 comes out the same time it did this year, you'll be stuck with a technological dinosaur if you didn't upgrade.

"What new features will be on the iPhone 5?" The thing that makes most Apple fans wait to upgrade is that they know Apple's big releases have the biggest surprises. Here are some of the rumored new features: LTE (4G), a large screen, slimmer design and the fact that it is probably the last device that Steve Jobs had a major impact on. But while this "cult classic" is going to probably break more records when it is released, the fact is that there aren't any quality rumors out yet that would cause us to recommend you wait to upgrade.
