There was no message left, but your missed calls list shows that somebody tried to reach you. You do not recognize the number, but you have mailed out several resumes lately and the call could be about one of them. Of course, the planning committee for your upcoming high school reunion has also been active recently. You really do not want to get trapped into doing the decorations again. Whichever scenario might be true, it would be best to prepare yourself before returning the call. One easy solution is to go online and use reverse lookup.

You can find many websites where you can enter the phone number and be rewarded with a name. Enter the term "reverse lookup" in the search window, and you will receive a long list to choose from. Click on the link to be taken to your selected site.

Once redirected to the site, enter the phone number, complete with area code, that you are investigating. When a match is located, the known information will be displayed. Usually this is both the name and the address associated with the account, but some sites only have names available.

If no match is found, you might try entering it as a cell phone number. Some sites separate searches by land line and cell phone. Double check that you have entered the area code and phone number correctly.

If you still receive no match, there are several possibilities to consider. It may be a prepaid cell phone that does not require registration. Or it may be a land line belonging to a company, such as a collection agency, that has managed to block their information from the database.

Most reverse lookup sites also offer other services, but not all are free. You can find the name associated with a social security number, or who is shown as residing at a given address. Some allow you to search by name to find email address or phone number. Looking up the owner of a phone number, however, remains the most popular search.
