Before choosing a specific cell phone plan it would be wise to make comparisons between the various plans available and then signing on the dotted line as you may have to spend thousands of dollars on the service. Various service plans offer different features. Hence thinking carefully about the cell phone plan is even more important than buying a good handset.

A prepaid plan is preferred by many as it is a pay-as-you-go type of plan where there is no contract to be signed with the carrier. You only pay for the amount of talking time you use. After selecting a good prepaid carrier you can purchase the cell phone that is available with that plan and then they activate it for you. You make a payment proportionate to the amount of talk time you want and then use it till the amount is finished. After this, you can recharge it for talking and using again.

The above plan is quite convenient for users who dont need much talk time. It is especially convenient as it does not include any service check for which you need to be creditworthy. If you have any past outstanding credits, you may not be eligible for other kind of cell phone plans. When you compare cell phone plans, this works out best as it is available nationwide and also small companies provide this service. One can control ones finances well as there is no huge unexpected bill due to over calling or sending too many messages.

Though the prepaid option does sound good when compared to other cell phone plans, the rate per minute could be more hence before settling for a complain compare the rates of the various cell phone plans. You can buy the minutes on a monthly base, a tri-monthly base and some carriers also provide minutes purchase on a yearly basis. It is a must that you use up your minutes within the time limit provided otherwise the money is lost.

Compare the choices of phones available with the different cell phone plans as sometimes these are very few. Verizon Wireless, for example provides prepaid cell phone plans with a limited four phones. For those who wish to purchase trendier phones, this may not be suitable and hence they will have to settle for some other cell phone plan.
