In today's society it is important for many people to keep up with the latest technology. The communication provider's answer to this is the smartphone. They have been around for a while but recently have become the mainstream for cellular devices. HTC is one of the leading providers of smartphones offering up a wide selection of products that run on Google's android platform. The phone we will be looking at in this review is the HTC wildfire.

If you have ever owned the HTC Desire then you might recognize this phone's design. It is similar in many ways and also shares some characteristics with the Nexus One. Despite the fact that it is designed to be an entry level smartphone it has much to offer. Features include a 582 MHz processor and 384 Mb of ram. The screen is a decent size with a 3.2" viewing area and the onboard camera takes pictures up to 5 megapixels.

The wildfire performs well, offering a variety of HTC proprietary widgets that allow you to maximize your communication needs. Friendstream allows you to keep up with all of the major social network sites and the music player supports a variety of formats. We suggest using headphones though because the external speaker leaves a little to be desired. The apps run smoothly most of the time and if there is something additional you need, simply find and download it from the android market.

Having said that, there are some minor issues with app crashes but despite this the phone works beautifully. The battery life is a major concern for many smartphone users, but you can expect to get about 12 hours of use from the wildfire under standard usage. This is based on a constant 3G connection and performing tasks like taking pictures, making videos, surfing the net and occasional music. This is a bit more than some of HTC's other phones.

Keep in mind that a standard LCD is used to help meet the entry level price point but this has in no way affected the phones performance. All in all this is a great phone for people who are just entering the realm of smartphones. It is also a good option for people looking for a lower priced phone to replace a lost or damaged phone. It is a phone that offers a lot of features for a nice price.
